Professional
Unity
The most popular game engine in the world, Unity is my choice as well. I have worked in Unity professionally since 2014. I have taken many games and projects through the entire development process, from ideation to distribution.
.NET C#
C# is the scripting language of choice for Unity these days. It’s also a respectable general language outside of Unity, and I’ve dabble in using it for web development using Blazor and Razor pages.
PC/Standalone
I strongly prefer PC gaming and particularly enjoy making games for PC. I’ve published games on Steam for my employers and itch.io and gamejolt for game jams.
Android/iOS
Everyone has a smart phone now, so every business wants apps for mobile devices. I have made and published mobile apps on both platforms for all of my employers. I’ve even enbedded a Unity instance in a native iOS and Android app for MindForge.
VR
Virtual and Augmented Reality are the cutting edge of videogame technology, and I have experience using Unity to create VR content for the Rift. Signal Person Training started out as nothing more than 3 programmers in a room with a whiteboard and an empty Unity project; now, it’s a 35-40 hour training program available on Steam.
Production/Project Management
I have lead teams of engineers, artists, and designers through all of the stages of development. Using Gantt charts, crew charts, Kanban boards, Jira, and a light dusting of agile/scrum, I have been able to maximize our productivity, make valuable estimates, and sound the alarm when changes need to be made.
Personal
Videogames
I like strategy, RPGs, resource management, roguelikes/roguelites and building games in particular, but that won’t stop me from trying other things too. Some of my favorite games: TES 3: Morrowind, Hearts of Iron 4, Cataclysm: DDA, and Halo: CE
Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
The music of extreme emotion, metal is where I go for catharsis. Sometimes that dominant emotion is anger, but most of the time it isn’t. Some of my favorite bands: Nightwish, Sabaton, Amaranthe, and All That Remains
Science Fiction/Fantasy
Books, movies, TV shows, games, and more; I love scifi and fantasy in every medium I have found. Whether it’s to escape reality, to expand the mind, or to envision what could be, this genre has always called to me. Some of my favorite media: Star Trek, Stargate, the Stormlight Archive, and Arcane: League of Legends
Dungeons & Dragons
You wake up shivering. Looking around, you see a rectangular stone room with two shelves of lit candles running the length of the room away from you. On the far side of the room, you see a closed wooden door. Resting against the door is a sleeping orc, a wicked black battleaxe in its lap. What do you do?
Mead
When possible, I prefer and strong sweet mead over beer or wine. I also enjoy stout beers and dry whiskey. I dabble in brewing my own mead since it can be hard to find in stores. I’d love to try my hand at distilling spirits one day, but the legal regulations around it are obnoxiously extreme. Can someone tell the feds that prohibition ended 100 years ago?
Breakfast Burritos
Eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, and hot salsa, all wrapped in a crispy warm tortilla. Are other breakfast foods even trying? I could have a breakfast burrito for any meal and not question it. Pizza and spaghetti with meatballs are up there too. And don’t forget cheeseburgers.
